Dear Student,
Choosing an online course asks something of you before the first assignment even begins: a willingness to take greater responsibility for your own education. Whether you are joining us for one course or many, you have made a real investment of time, effort, and resources — and we want that investment to be worthwhile.
We believe you are a child of God with individual gifts, tremendous potential, and a purpose that reaches far beyond earning a grade. So our courses may ask more of you than finishing an assignment and moving on. You may be asked to read carefully, think deeply, explain your reasoning, revise your work, and take ownership of your learning. We believe you are capable of it.
Challenging you does not mean leaving you on your own. Behind every course are real teachers and mentors who want you to succeed. If you get confused, fall behind, make a mistake, or simply do not know what to do next, reach out. Asking for help is part of learning.
Your short Foundations course will introduce you to our mission, our Honor Code, and the way we teach — and, we hope, why we do things the way we do.
You belong here before you have earned a single point. Bring your questions, your ideas, your willingness to work, and the talents you have not discovered yet.

AHS Online High School Administration
Do these three things first. Everything else waits on them.
New students receive an AHS Online email address in the form firstname.lastname@ahsonline.org. Our office staff create it for you, and it can take 2–3 business days. Parents receive the address and password at the email they gave us at registration.
Returning students keep using their existing @ahsonline.org address. You can sign in or reset a password at portal.office.com.
Canvas is where your courses, assignments, and grades live. Sign in with the Microsoft email address above — not a personal email.
Work through Foundations together, parent and student, and sign the Honor Code. This is required to unlock your other courses, so do it first.

We believe AI, used wisely, can be a powerful tool for learning. Elder Gerrit W. Gong has observed that “artificial intelligence can help us access information, communicate, and serve in remarkable ways,” while reminding us that our own thinking, character, and effort are irreplaceable. AI can support learning or it can replace it — and students are here to learn.
Using AI to complete homework is allowed only when an assignment or mentor specifically instructs it, and any such use must be disclosed to your mentor. Some assignments will deliberately teach and invite AI use, because we are preparing students to use it responsibly. When it is permitted, students are expected to be transparent about how they used it, use it to support rather than replace their own thinking, and independently verify anything AI-generated before submitting. When a teacher states that AI is not allowed on an assignment, that is strictly enforced.
If a grader flags suspected unauthorised AI use, the student is contacted and given three options: decline to discuss it and receive a zero on the assignment, meet with the mentor about the work, or acknowledge the AI use and revise the assignment for a score capped at 70%. A confirmed violation is shared with parents so they can help going forward. A second confirmed violation is treated as a pattern rather than an isolated lapse: it is reviewed with the Assistant Principal, and continued enrolment in the course may be affected.
